The federal government extended this year’s federal income tax filing deadline from the usual April 15, 2021, Tax Day deadline to May 17, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While most folks are facing federal income tax deadlines today, those that live in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, which were affected by severe winter storms where million were left without water and power, in February of this year, now have a little extra time, June 15, 2021, to file their income tax.
The IRS announced deadline extensions after FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) issued disaster declarations for 254 counties in Texas, 77 counties in Oklahoma, and 64 parishes in Louisiana. Taxpayers also have until June 15, 2021, to make 2020 IRA contributions.
For Louisiana and Oklahoma state tax deadlines also have been extended until June 15. The extension is automatic, meaning you do not need to take any action.
For those in Tennessee, you have until August 2, 2021, due to the Spring storms.
- Individuals and businesses in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana have until June 15 to file and pay. All taxpayers in these three states qualify for relief.
- Individuals and businesses in parts of Kentucky have until June 30 to file and pay.
- Individuals and businesses in parts of Alabama have until August 2 to file and pay.
